Changes from June 1st

Dear Parent/Carer

Firstly, can I take this opportunity to thank you for your support and understanding during this unprecedented time. I have been a headteacher for 15 years and have never experienced a situation even remotely close to the one we currently find ourselves in. The extremely difficult position has been made easier due to the commitment of everyone (staff, parents and governors) to ensure we are providing what works best for our children.

We are currently still undertaking risk assessments and exploring different scenarios in preparation for the potential opening to year 6 on June 1st. I hope to provide further clarification to you by the end of next week, but our priority is to keep everyone as safe as we can whilst trying to follow the government directive.
As you should now be aware we are not opening for key worker children during the Whitsun holiday to allow us time to prepare.

The structure of the school day for children will be very different to what the children are used to because of the social distancing measures we will need to put in place. Flax Hill will be closed on Wednesday afternoons every week for deep cleaning to all children. Provision will involve staggered start and end times and will only be full time for key worker children in some classes. Unfortunately, at this point we are unable to offer breakfast and after school clubs.

Key workers -We are expanding our key worker category to allow children with just one key worker parent to attend after June 1st for children in years 3, 4 and 5. If you now require a place please email info@flaxhill.staffs.sch.uk with the subject line key worker place. We will require evidence that you job fits into the official list of key workers provided by the government.

Year 6 parents - At this point I am asking for the help of parents of children in year 6 with regards to whether you would like your child to return to school on 1st June (details will be confirmed prior to this date with regards to times and dates). Please be reassured that we totally understand that many people have differing opinions and circumstances and there will be no judgements or fines regardless of your decision. Can all parents who aren’t already identified as key workers email info@flaxhill.staffs.sch.uk with the subject line Y6 place and say “Yes I would like a place for child’s name” or “No I do not require a place for child’s name”.

Please note no actions will be taken for those parents deciding to keep their children at home.

Please can you send your email by Friday 15th May. If you do not have email access, please call Flax Hill office between 9:30am – 3:00pm to confirm your decision.
As you are aware guidance and the situation is continually changing and we are continually reviewing the provision we can provide. I will be in touch to finalise details once we have received your responses.

Thank you again for your patience and understanding.

Stay Safe.
