Pupil Premium

At Flax Hill, we have a long-standing success with Pupil Premium children which includes achieving “Pupil Premium Regional Winner for the West Midlands” in 2014.  However, we are not complacent and all staff are committed to narrowing the gap between pupil groups. The funding we receive is used wisely to have the highest impact on the children who need it most.  Our commitment to every aspect of each child runs through everything we do at Flax Hill and we want to enable our children to become lifelong learners and to have the skills to continue to flourish and achieve when they leave our school.

The pupil premium money is very successfully deployed to support academic development and success. Examples of which include specialist teachers and teaching assistants who provide targeted interventions in small groups and 1:1. A yearly curriculum focus is created by looking at internal and external data and children’s progress rates. The needs of all the children are always at the forefront of our minds.

Emotional support and building children’s resilience are key to success and our employment of a family support worker and nurture teaching assistants are invaluable.  We want to help children and their families to reduce the barriers to learning by supporting them in a way that suits them best.  This may be by providing free breakfast club places, supporting good attendance or partaking in nurture sessions.  It could be financial support with regards to paying for trips or residentials.  Equally it may be supporting academic development or providing specialist learning resources.

We strive for children to succeed in all areas and this is why we have employed a specialist music teacher who can provide free brass lessons for Pupil Premium children in Year 5 and 6.  Weekly hour music lessons mean that all children are provided with a life enhancing opportunity.  A broad and balanced curriculum where all aspects of learning are respected and valued is at the heart of our school.

Careful tracking and analysis of data alongside strong relationships with children and parents continues to enable Flax Hill to use the Pupil Premium funding effectively.  If you believe your child is entitled to free school meals, please contact the school office.
